7 Tips for Brushing your dog

7 TIPS FOR BRUSHING YOUR DOG
Grooming is a vital part in the well-being and healthiness of a dog which can improve their lifespan. All Breeds require daily grooming, how much depends on the breed, age, or health of the pet. Regular grooming helps to ensure the dog is healthy and comfortable.

The main reasons for regular grooming include:

  • decreased chance of various health problems, such as thrush, scratches, and other skin problems and make the dog look pretty
  • general cleanliness of the dog
  • monitoring of the dog's health by checking for cuts, heat, swelling, lameness, or changes in temperament, all of which could be indicative of illness
  • forging of a closer bond between dog and owner
  • Reducing infestation load of external parasites on skin.

Here are 7 tips for brushing your dog:

1.      Determine how often you need to brush
Most short coats require weekly brushing, but longer coats may require daily attention.

2.      Keep  Brushing Sessions short
This prevents over brushing, causing dogs skin from becoming overly sensitive, and will prevent your dog from becoming bored or frustrated with long sessions.

3.      For smooth, short coats
Use a rubber brush, then a bristle brush, and then polish with a chamois cloth.

4.      For short, dense coats
Remove twists and knots by using a long tooth brush or comb, followed by a bristle brush.

5.      For long coats
Use a slicker brush to remove tangles and be very gentle when removing mats. Then follow it with a bristle brush.

6.      Remember to brush the tail and feet
Especially for dogs with longer coats.

7.       Check for ticks and fleas as you brush
You may notice the bugs themselves or small black flecks in the fur.
